What to wear to a boudoir shoot over 40

“What do I wear?” is the most-searched boudoir question, and the one I hear before nearly every session. The honest answer: fit and feeling matter far more than size or label. Here’s what works beautifully for women in their 40s, 50s and 60s.

Pieces that photograph beautifully

  • A silk or sheer robe. It’s the easiest first look: it covers, it moves, and it frames you softly.
  • A well-fitted bodysuit. One line from shoulder to hip. Black, ivory or a deep jewel tone always feels timeless.
  • A matching bra and panty set, professionally fitted. A good fit changes everything on camera.
  • His (or your) crisp white button-down, or an oversized knit. Effortless, and as modest or as daring as you like.
  • A slip or chemise in satin or lace that skims rather than clings.
  • Something personal: pearls, a wedding veil, heels you love, a hat. These make the images yours.

What to skip

  • Anything too small. Straps and bands that dig in show on camera and distract you.
  • Pieces you have to keep adjusting.
  • Brand-new shoes you haven’t walked in.
  • Tight clothes on the way to your session, since waistbands leave marks.

How many outfits?

  • The Sparkup to 2 outfits
  • The Flameup to 3 outfits
  • The Infernounlimited outfits

Bring one or two more than your package covers. Start with the look you feel safest in and build from there. You’re always in control of how much or how little you show.

Quick answers

Do I need to buy expensive lingerie?

No. Fit matters more than price. A robe, a white shirt and one well-fitted set are enough for a beautiful session.

What colors work best?

Black, ivory, champagne and deep jewel tones are timeless and flatter most skin tones. Avoid busy prints.
