What to Wear to a Boudoir Session

By Sean ·

The most common question before a boudoir session is what to wear. The honest answer: whatever makes you feel beautiful. You’ll get a full wardrobe guide and my 50-pose posing guide, included free after booking, but here’s where to start.

Start with pieces you already love

Lingerie, bodysuits, robes and an oversized shirt all work well. Choose things that fit you now and feel good to move in, rather than something you’d have to keep adjusting. If a piece makes you stand a little taller in the mirror, bring it.

Colors that photograph best

Dark and jewel tones photograph best: black, deep green, burgundy, sapphire. They flatter every skin tone and look rich in natural light. White and ivory are lovely for a softer, airy set, especially with sheets or linen.

Mix textures

Lace, sheer fabric, silk, linen and knit each catch light differently. A mix across your outfits gives the gallery more variety, even if every piece is the same color.

How many outfits?

  • The Spark (60 minutes): up to 2 outfits.
  • The Flame (90 minutes): up to 3 outfits.
  • The Inferno (2 hours): unlimited outfits.

It’s fine to bring a few extras and decide together on the day.

Small things that make a difference

  • Wear loose clothing on the way so you don’t get strap or waistband marks.
  • Bring accessories you love: heels, a statement necklace, a choker, a hat.
  • Bring something with meaning, like a partner’s shirt or, for bridal boudoir, your veil.
  • Hair and makeup are optional. Do your own, or book your favorite stylist for the morning of your session.
